LOS ANGELES, CA – Comedy Dynamics is releasing Maria Bamford’s latest comedy special, Local Act, which will be available to buy or rent on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, YouTube, Google Play, Dish, and many more cable providers worldwide on December 12, 2023.
Watch as beloved comedian Maria Bamford reveals the true joy and sense of community involved with being an L.A. standup in her new stripped-down special Local Act. Best known as the star of the Netflix series Lady Dynamite and the cult hit web series The Maria Bamford Show, with the release of her new memoir Sure, I’ll Join Your Cult, she recently added NY Times best-selling author to her accolades. Local Act is her sixth standup special, adding a brilliant new hour of intimately personal comedy to her existing body of critically praised works.
Maria was the first female comic to have two half-hour Comedy Central Presents specials and starred alongside Patton Oswalt, Zach Galifianakis and Brian Posehn in The Comedians of Comedy. She is often recognized for her prolific voiceover work, including characters on Big Mouth and its spinoff Human Resources, HouseBroken, Teenage Euthanasia, Santa, Inc., Bob’s Burgers, Bojack Horseman, Summer Camp Island, Adventure Time, Talking Tom and Friends, Legend of Korra, Puss in Boots, CatDog and PBS’s Emmy-winning series Word Girl. She played DeBrie Bardeaux on Netflix’s Arrested Development and recurred on the ABC hit series Fresh off the Boat. Other TV guest roles include Life & Beth, Portlandia, Kenan, Mr. Mayor, and large recurring roles on Hulu’s Everything’s Gonna Be Okay, and Showtime’s Flatbush Misdeameanors. Maria’s late-night appearances include The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Late Night with Seth Meyers, CONAN, The Late Late Show with James Corden and The Tonight Show.
Local Act was filmed live at Public Displays of Altadena. According to PDA’s website, the theater is “nestled in the foothills of Altadena and delicately sandwiched between a liquor store and a gourmet pizza shop you’ll find a 35-seat, strip-mall micro-theater known to those in the know as PDA. It was built by artists, for artists, to explore, swing big, and have complete free license of our (we’ll say it) genius. We pack momentous moments into our teeny tiny town hall-in-the-wall, for all the world to see. It’s a space for the Revolution– where stupidity and poetry collide at 120 mph and explode into true once in a lifetime sh*t; a safe space to be publicly shamed, a place to witness absolute bravery, success, and failure.”
Over the last decade, Comedy Dynamics has become the largest independent comedy production and distribution company, producing award-winning comedy specials for Kevin Hart, Ali Wong, Pete Davidson, Tiffany Haddish, Jim Gaffigan, Tom Segura, Iliza Shlesinger, Jimmy O. Yang, Ilana Glazer, Bo Burnham, Eddie Izzard, David Cross, and hundreds more.
“Support your local comedian!” said Maria Bamford. “Google your zip code plus ‘comedy.’ Or watch me, comedian Maria Bamford, perform within walking distance of my home!”
“Maria is an undeniable legend in the world of comedy, and somehow, her specials continue to get funnier and funnier every single time,” said Brian Volk-Weiss, Founder and CEO of Comedy Dynamics, a Nacelle company. “Local Act might be her best special yet!”
The special was directed by Bri LeRose. Brian Volk-Weiss, Cisco Henson, Bruce Smith, and Maria Bamford serve as Executive Producers.
